Alex took the start however his inexperience with the setup initially showed: an incident along with a number of spins dropping the team into 12th place – a lap behind and 59 seconds to the next car. However over the next few hours Alex was able to steadily bring his pace up, lapping consistently quicker than the leaders – setting the second fastest overall race lap in his last stint bringing the team back up to 6th place and back on the lead lap. Alex had this to say about the first round:
“It was initially tricky for me to get used to the setup at Simply Race and I think that showed in the first stint as I really struggled to keep control of the car. It did however come to me and I’m really pleased about my pace in the second and particularly third stint. Apologies to Adam as he drove spectacularly to get pole but I’ve learnt a lot from this experience so hopefully moving forward we can iron out the mistakes and make sure we get the reward for our pace.”
Jumping in the car with just under 3 hours remaining, Adam was able to build on his already impressive pace, carefully weaving through the traffic to bring the team up to 3rd:
“There were a lot of positives to take from round one. Despite the crash the pace was right up there both in qualifying and the race as Alex got faster and faster as he got used to the equipment. It was fun coming back through the field and dragging ourselves back onto the lead lap and into third place. We had a few good battles with other teams as we made our way up but we couldn’t do anything about the two 130 teams who had great pace all race, congrats on the 1 and 2. I’m really looking forward to the rest of the season, we should be right in the hunt and hopefully we can put up a fight with 130 this season.” Thanks to all sponsors, displayed below!
