Adam and Alex, accompanied by team boss Rob headed to Milton Keynes for the second round of the Simply Race Endurance Series. Held at Road Atlanta, the second round produced what could only be described as a chaotic race.
The team began the race in 3rd position after Adam produced another great lap in qualifying. He quickly jumped up to second and began to settle in behind the under-fuelled Phoenix car leading the race. The curbs at the circuit were viscous however and an unlucky mistake from Adam led to the car flipping over and causing a large amount of damage, costing the team around a lap to the leaders. He continued, fighting his way back up the field however a few mistakes from Alex in his first stint meant the team found themselves 6th around 4 laps behind by the 6-hour mark.
Fortunes were about to change and as the sun set, the pace rose and rose, both Adam and Alex during the remaining 6 hours setting the fastest race teams consistently every single lap, comfortably managing low 1:19s whilst the rest of the fields ran in the mid 1:20s. This pace; coupled with no mistakes having been made, meant that by the time Adam embarked on the last 40 minutes of the race the Radicals Online Bentley was back on the lead lap, fighting for the race again.
It was a case of too little too late as the Phoenix car held on for their first victory in the series only 12 seconds ahead as we came home for second place.
Adam had this to say about the team’s performance during the second round: “Overall it was a positive race for us. We showed very good race pace and was consistently the quickest car on track. It was a surprise to be so close to the leader at the end of the race after all the troubles we had but it felt good to be able to hunt them down. Hopefully we have better luck at the next round and get the result we deserve”.
Alex also noted: “I’m sorry for the mistakes today as it definitely cost us the race, although my late race pace is great its the beginning where I feel it’s costing us, will need to work to improve for the next round.”.
A bitter sweet result and a case of what could have been, but team will be working hard and looking forward to Round 3 at the infamous Istanbul Park on the 10th June.
