For the third time this year Adam and Alex headed to Simply Race for Round 3 of the Simply Race Endurance Series – the 6 hours of Istanbul. After having a turbulent first couple rounds, mistakes costing the two victories on both occasions, the drivers were determined to put it all together and finally take a victory.
After an underwhelming practise session Adam took to the track for qualifying to line up an impressive 3rd place setting a 1:50.478 in the Radicals Online Bentley only trailing the experienced Phoenix and 130 Racing Blue teams (both running in the Mercedes). Having had little running at the track and given the previous knowledge of the Bentley’s tyre wear, team manager Rob made the decision to gamble with the first stint by running the softest compound of tyre (the S7s) whereas the rest of the field opted for the middle compound tyre (the S8s). The gamble appeared to pay off as by lap 7, Adam was all over the back of the leader, overtaking him swiftly and pulling out a further 20 seconds come the end of his stint. Alex then jumped in the car looking to consolidate the lead Adam had built up, a two-hour stint culminating in a 30 second led for the Radical boys. All Adam had to do now was bring the car home, he drove brilliant last 3 stints to finally take the victory by a dominant 53 seconds from 130 Racing Blue.
“It feels really good to get the first win of the season after the troubles we’ve had in the early rounds”, said Adam on reflection of the event, “we’ve always had good pace but today we were able to put it all together.”.
Alex, also thrilled about the result, had this to say about the victory: “Really pleased with the result today as I think we deserve it, Adam was driving spectacularly all day and for me personally I’m happy to have achieved a similar pace to him by the end of my stints”.
Unfortunately, the team will have to be absent from Round 4 as they will be attending Sim Racing Expo, we do wish the best for all the teams running the event and will be sure to watch the stream live on the 15th September.
